KINGDOM RELATIONS

Managing Relations
Relations between kingdoms are managed by your kingdom's elected Monarch. New players do not need to be too familiar with this process - follow the leadership of your kingdom to simplify this area.

Understanding the role of your kingdom and its relations is vital to your success in Utopia. Your kingdom is your alliance - without it, you likely won't survive. Work within your kingdom, however, and the possibilities are endless. As a member of a kingdom, it is important to know the various relations and how they might guide your actions. As a Monarch, it is also vital that you understand your role in this system - managing diplomacy with other kingdoms and declaring various relations.

At any time, you may view your kingdom's relations with other kingdoms through the Relations page. You can see another kingdom's relations with your kingdom through the Kingdom page.

Editor's Note: This system is still a work in progress and may change slightly over the course of the coming days.

Possible Relations
No Relations The default status with most kingdoms, this simply means you have specified no particular relationship with the target kingdom.

Ceasefire A ceasefire is a relation that is proposed by the monarch of a kingdom and agreed to by the recipient kingdom. Once in place, any previous hostilities between the kingdom are cancelled, and neither side may conduct attacks, spells, or operations on the other. A ceasefire can be cancelled by either monarch at any time. This type of status is a mutual relationship and kingdoms may propose one ceasefire at a time.

Unfriendly By attacking a kingdom a number of times, your status with them will change to Unfriendly. There is no material change in your relationship, but further attacks could lead to Hostility. These relations will naturally fade back to No Relations if no further actions are taken.

Hostile A large number of attacks on an opposing kingdom will result in a hostility. Once a kingdom reaches this status, each party gets unique benefits. These relations will naturally fade back to Unfriendly if no further actions are taken.

AGGRESSOR KINGDOM:
+10% Combat Gains
Wider Access to Conquest

RECIPIENT KINGDOM:
-10% Attack Time
Access to Hostile Spells and Operations
Wider Access to Conquest

If both kingdoms reach mutual hostilities with each other, then both parties will get all of these bonuses.

War Once a kingdom faces a hostility from another kingdom, it earns the right to go to war, provided it reaches the Unfriendly stage themselves. In the case of a mutual hostility, the kingdom that is "less" hostile has the right to escalate the conflict to a level of war simply through declarations. Once declared, war will commence within 24 hours. War is designed to allow two kingdoms to engage in combat with less interference from the outside world and is the primary source of gaining honor. Any kingdom can only be in one War at a time, and all other diplomatic relations are considered dormant as long as the War continues.

EFFECTS OF WAR:
-25% Attack Time & Military Training Time
-50% Military Losses from Combat
+100% Exploration Costs
-10% Income
Double Science Costs; Half Science Production
No Distance Penalties for Attacks
Attacks capture added land from the opposing kingdom's exploration pool
Attacks generate new honor

-75% Gains and Effectiveness for operations to and from other Kingdoms
1% Honor Loss each Utopian Month

Minimum Time: 48 Utopian Days

War can only be halted through Diplomatic decisions by the Kingdoms' Monarchs. War can be ended in any of three ways. In all of these cases, neither kingdom may have any relations for one Utopian month after the war ends.

MUTUAL PEACE - This option requires consent by both parties and simply settles the war with no winner. This is an excellent option when both kingdoms simply lose interest in the war or find it more benefical to simply move on.

SURRENDER - A kingdom clearly losing a war will be given the option to Surrender. Surrendering will cost the losing kingdom 5% of their total honor, distributed evenly amongst the provinces of the winning kingdom. Surrenders can only occur if the surrendering kingdom has not committed any attacks within the past three Utopian Days.

WITHDRAWAL - A kingdom clearly winning a war will get the option to Withdraw their forces if they tire of the war effort. This option, available only after two months of conflict, allows the winning kingdom to withdraw without surrender. The Withdrawing Kingdom will suffer a 2% Honor loss and gain 10% of the opposing kingdom's exploration pool.

Once any of these scenarios takes effect, the kingdoms will enter a 24 hour ceasefire, where neither party can undertake actions against the other. However, both kingdoms will remain in war relations during this time, continuing the protections from outside interference while the war concludes and each party rebuilds.

During war, a temporary War Forum will be created in which both kingdoms' members can interact in a single forum. Monarchs and pages from each kingdom will have the ability to moderate the forums, and it is expected that provinces interact respectfully, or the Utopian Lords may look to take appropriate action.
